Prop Firm Terms

Account Size

The initial capital allocated to a trader in a prop firm account, typically ranging from $25K to $250K. Used as the primary filter dimension in OnePropFirm comparisons.

Consistency Rule

A requirement that traders maintain consistent performance (e.g., no single day accounts for more than 30% of total profit). Common in the Funded stage to prevent excessive risk-taking.

Drawdown (Daily)

The maximum loss allowed in a single trading day, typically expressed as a percentage or dollar amount. Exceeding this limit usually results in account termination.

Drawdown (Max/Overall)

The maximum cumulative loss allowed from the account's peak balance. Can be static (fixed amount) or trailing (moves with profits).

Drawdown Type: Static

A fixed maximum drawdown that never changes (e.g., $3,000 on a $50K account, regardless of profits earned).

Drawdown Type: Trailing

A maximum drawdown that moves up as the account gains profit, locking in gains while maintaining the same risk cushion.

Evaluation Stage

The initial phase where traders must meet profit targets and follow all rules to qualify for a funded account. Also called the "Challenge Phase."

Funded Stage

The phase after passing evaluation where traders trade real capital and earn profit splits. Rules often differ from evaluation (no profit targets, different payout rules).

Payout

Cash distribution from the prop firm to the trader, typically a percentage of profits earned. Frequency varies by firm (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly).

Payout Frequency

How often traders can request withdrawals (e.g., weekly, bi-weekly, monthly). More frequent payouts are generally preferable.

Profit Split

The percentage of profits that the trader keeps vs. what the firm takes. Common splits include 80/20, 85/15, and 90/10 (trader/firm).

Profit Target

A required profit amount that must be reached during the evaluation stage to qualify for funding. Not present in the funded stage.

Reset Fee

The cost to restart an evaluation after failing a challenge or violating rules. Can be equal to or less than the initial entry fee.

Trading Days (Minimum)

The minimum number of days a trader must be active before requesting a payout or advancing stages. Prevents quick "hit and run" strategies.
